past exhibition | Laura Morrison: Vivien, Cape Town | 12 October - 15 November 2013
Laura Morrison: Vivien, Cape Town CANAL is delighted to launch its exhibition space with Vivian, Cape Town (Part I), a solo show by Laura Morrison.

Morrison's wall-reliefs and digital prints re-present public testimonies of both personal and global scope. Her over-investment in the material rendering of a flat image both compresses and extrapolates a traumatic relation between the status of the public testimony and the modesty of its specificity.

The mix of wit and pathos in Morrison's work viscerally slows down and intensifies the encounter with this relation in an attempt to think through how we move between states of comfort and devastation.
Laura Morrison is a graduate of Chelsea (BA in Painting) and Goldsmiths (MFA).

Recent projects include How to Read World Literature at The Public School (New York 2013), Laura Morrison/ Maite Zabala at Void Gallery (Derry 2013), a residency with the Institute for Mathematical Sciences at Flat Time House (London 2013), screening and book launch for "Oh Wicked Flesh!" at the South London Gallery (London 2013).

Forthcoming shows include Vivian, Cape Town (Part II) at Furnished Space (November 2013), Concerning the Bodyguard at Project Space Leeds (Leeds 2014) and Proxy at Platform Arts (Belfast 2014).
Morrison’s solo exhibition is accompanied by the start of the SHOW CONTINUES series, which showcases the best of London’s recent art graduates.

Back to Orlando is a South African sci-fi short by Goldsmiths MFAs Phillip Raiford Johnson and Gareth Owen Lloyd.
